The Courage to Be

The title is so powerful to me... it means the courage to be loved, to be yourself... it means that nothing is required of us.. that God does not need us.

This is the very truest Word of God. That He loves us and needs nothing from us... expects nothing from us and in fact dies for us. If God does have requirements for us, then he did not truly taste death for death is the forfeiture of all, and in the case of one who gives his life for another nothing can be expected of the object of his affection except that it continue to BE... and be loved.

The good news is that God loves us unto death. The good news is that it does not matter in the slightest whether we know this, whether we know God, whether we love him back.

The Cross means that God's un-ending passion is proclaimed in silence. Even when we do not hear the silence of God's love, it drowns out all other realities and we can be assured that the universe is alive with His desperate passion for us.

    And that is the gospel.

Funny you post of this today, perhaps my cranial energy was beaming a few inches across the bed to your pillow...
but i was thinking in my head of a thanksgiving prayer...
"we thank you for the overflowing of our soul's cup - the wine brimming to lead us to life's euphoria. we thank you for shadows...the last drop for which we desperately turn our glasses upside down to find even a fraction of life. and in these times, we are human. and for this humanity, we have only you to thank."
