I love bitters, tinctures, aperitifs, digest-ifs and unusual liqueurs.  So the idea of making my own tonic was quite appealing.  Fortunately we have a robust apothecary nearby that has every botanical you could need for such an endeavor.

I took the recipe from Jeffrey Morgenthaler who has many other awesome ideas as well (I will be sifting through some of his older posts for further inspiration).

The end result (after a long time straining all the Cinchona bark powder out) is a tonic tincture that I can blend with seltzer water.
